Name: Varka
Canon: Genshin Impact
Canon Point: Post 6.3
Age: 46
Species: Human
History: Here!
Personality:
✽ What is your character's main motivation? What drives them and keeps them going?
Protecting his “home.” Varka realized long ago that the people he loved and the home he missed were the reason he wanted to become a knight. Since then, he has fought for them — even when it takes him far from home.
✽ What is their biggest regret? Why?
After returning to Mondstadt, jealousy toward Varka took root in the heart of Eroch. At the same time, Varka — in a bid to buy the younger generation “time” to grow and develop — set out from Mondstadt to dispel threats to the peace that he had fought for. While he was away, Eroch betrayed the knights by waking Ursa the Drake, leading to the death of Crepus Ragnvindr, an old friend.
Though he returned to dispel justice thereafter, he still felt that he had failed Mondstadt and its people, especially when his whole reason for being away in the first place had been for the sake of protecting them.
✽ What is their worst fear? Their greatest comfort?
Varka fears that he will be unable to quell the fragment of Andrius’s soul in Nod Krai, thus leading to the destruction of both Lupus Boreas and Mondstadt as a whole.
His greatest comfort… might not exist? Varka is the kind of guy that doesn’t rest on his laurels. When he was most confident that Mondstadt was without threats, his home suffered a grievous loss. Thus, he doesn’t let himself be too relaxed by comfort.
That being said, he does try to remind himself that he is not just a Knight of Boreas, but one that has been acknowledged by the wolf itself. That’s not something that many can claim, and speaks to his level of skill beyond any mortal level.
Or. You know. Wine. That’s comforting right?
✽ Top three strengths?
- Bladework: Varka has spent years mastering his dual wielding technique, ensuring that handing two massive weapons doesn’t leave him tired or off-balance. It’s also a skill that was largely self-taught, having been honed in repeated brawls with Lupus Boreas, all without relying on his Vision.
- Humble: Though Varka may boast on his own free time, when it comes down to it, he gladly takes a step back in order to see others excel.
- (Emotionally) Intelligent: Again, you wouldn’t think it on the surface, but Varka is incredibly good at detecting what other people need. Upon their return to Mondstadt, he cautioned Jean not to plan a part so as not to overwhelm the knights. Later, he revealed that he was trying to keep her from stressing herself out by taking too much on.
✽ Top three weaknesses?
- Wine. Or any booze. Offer him a bottle of Dandelion Wine and he’ll be enamored. Destroy it and he’ll despair.
- His Home. Strike at his pack, and you cripple the wolf himself. It’s why Varka goes to such lengths to care for the people that he loves, and comes down on himself so hard when he fails.
- Did I mention the wine? No seriously.
(But for real, weakness three is that he’s ruled by emotions. When receiving his rejection letter from the knights, he didn't even bother reading it all the way through, missing the fact that the knights were worried about chaining him to a desk as a result. When it came time to give Andrius his answer, he did so at the cost of his own life/soul, with only the faintest hope that his contingency plan would work out.)
✽ What was their last lie?
“You think I'm trying to dump all my work onto Jean? Absolutely not, perish the thought, I would never!”
Inventory:
- Gest of the Mighty Wolf — A mighty claymore almost as long as Varka is.
- Unnamed Longsword — Wielded in tandem with Gest.
- Flask. Always seems to run out at the worst times.
Abilities:
(Gameplay descriptions of his skills can be found here. However, they can best be summarized as follows:
- Bladework: See above. He is a whirling dervish in combat, and can easily wield two weighty blades without exhaustion. This has been called a “blade dance" and requires considerable amount of finesse as well as force.
- Command of the wind: As an Anemo vision holder, he is able to utilize the wind in combat.
- Elemental Resonance: Anemo wielders are able to resonate with and “swirl” other elements. Thus, he is able to pick up on elemental energy from his allies and combat and utilize it into his own strikes. Both this skill and the latter are utilized in his bladework, allowing him to hurtle the elements with his strikes.
- Impossibly Resilient Knees: Mans can leap off the highest point of Teyvat with his skill and land without taking damage. I can’t even get out of bed without aching.
